Volunteer FAQ: “Do I need any previous trail-building experience?”
This is a common question, and one with a simple answer:
No, you do not need any previous experience to help with the construction of the Transcaucasian Trail!
In fact, most people who join the programme have never built trail before volunteering with us. It’s not experience that’s important – it’s enthusiasm!
If you are willing to get stuck in, challenge yourself, meet new people, and contribute to this immense project, then you will find volunteering for the TCT an immensely rewarding experience.
Our local organisations provide expert crew leaders and trail designers to ensure you are taught how to correctly and safely build new trail. As our first priority is safety, our crew leaders will tailor the work to your ability and speed, ensuring that you’re not pushing yourself beyond your limits.
We’ll spend significant time with you ensuring that you understand how to perform tasks safely and efficiently, and that you understand the reasons why work is done in certain ways regarding sustainability and environmental concerns.
In other words, the experience is tailored for participants with no prior trail-building experience, so if you have not built trail before, this is a reason to join us, not a reason to stay away!
Participating in the construction of the Transcaucasian Trail is an adventure, and will provide you with the chance to challenge yourself in a new environment. By the end of your two weeks with us you will have camped in some amazing places, met lots of new friends, and learned a lot of new skills.
