It seems 2020 might just be the start of Armenia’s tourism boom, with the country appearing on countless listings of hot new destinations, and the Transcaucasian Trail being named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Greatest Places.
Following this trend, three European airlines – Ryanair, Wizzair and Air Baltic – have announced new cheap flights to Armenia from several major European airports.
These new low-budget flights will serve not just the capital, Yerevan (via Zvartnots International Airport, EVN), but also Gyumri (via Shirak International Airport, LWN), Armenia’s second city and former capital.
For hikers and backpackers planning to explore newly-opened stages of the Transcaucasian Trail in Armenia, this is fantastic news, as it puts a previously expensive flight destination well within reach of the budget traveller.
