International Volunteer Program Armenia Group Details

Ready to join a trail crew in Armenia? Below you’ll find details for each of the 2026 volunteer groups, including project locations, dates, and what to expect in the field. Each group focuses on a different section of the Transcaucasian Trail.

Every hitch offers its own mix of landscapes, challenges, and rewards. Explore the options below to find the project that’s right for you.

GROUP 1

Region: Lori

Trail Section: Sanahin–Mrdzakar section

Duration: 12 days

Dates: June 14–25

Program Fee: $1000

Project Specifications and Focus: This section is one of the wildest along the trail, offering a true sense of disconnection and immersion in nature. Water sources are limited, so the crew may need to bring water from a nearby community, which is some distance away. This project is ideal for adventurous volunteers who enjoy remote landscapes, challenging trailwork, and the feeling of leaving a tangible impact.

Expected Trail Work: Trail construction and maintenance

Difficulty Level: Moderate-Hard

Basecamp Location: Dilijan, Tavush region

Weather: Mild to warm summer temperatures, but can be cooler at higher elevations. Rain is possible, so make sure to bring waterproof clothing.

GROUP 2

Region: Gegharkunik

Trail Section: Mt. Azhdahak Trail: base camp to summit

Duration: 7 days

Dates: July 19-25

Program Fee: $700

Project Specifications and Focus: This trail leads to the stunning Azhdahak Peak, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. It’s perfect for those who enjoy high-altitude hiking and want a mix of physical challenge and natural beauty. Water will be limited. Accommodation is available in a dormitory at the base camp, but if you prefer, you are welcome to bring a tent.

Expected Trail Work: Trail construction, signposting

Difficulty Level: Hard

Basecamp Location: Garni, Kotayk region

Weather: Can be cold at the peak; nights may be chilly.

GROUP 3

Region: Syunik

Trail Section: Vorotan Canyon

Duration: 12 days

Dates: August 16-27

Program Fee: $1000

Project Specifications and Focus: This section takes you through the rugged and dramatic landscapes of Syunik, offering a deep sense of adventure and immersion in Armenia’s wild south. 

Expected trail work: Trail construction, marking, lopping

Difficulty level: Moderate

Basecamp Location: Areni, Vayots Dzor region

Weather: Warm summer temperatures in the valleys; cooler in higher elevations. Some rain is possible.

GROUP 4

Region: Lori

Trail Section: Dzoraget or Debed Gorge 

Duration: 7 days

Dates: September 13-19

Program Fee: $700

Project Specifications and Focus: This project takes you through the scenic gorges of Lori, where volunteers will engage in trail construction and lopping. It’s a chance to work in a visually stunning area while helping maintain and improve trails for future hikers, all while enjoying the unique beauty and tranquility of the Armenian countryside.

Difficulty level: Moderate

Basecamp Location: Dilijan, Tavush region

Weather: Early autumn temperatures, mild during the day and cooler in the evenings; possible rain.

GROUP 5

Region: Syunik

Trail Section: Arevik National Park trails

Duration: 12 days

Dates: October 18-29

Program Fee: $1000

Project Specifications and Focus: This project takes you to the southern part of Armenia, to one of the most pristine protected areas of Armenia. You will be surrounded by scenic mountain landscapes and the vibrant colors of autumn. This section represents the final stretch of the TCT still under construction, so your work will directly contribute to completing the TCT across Armenia – a milestone achievement for our trail network.

Difficulty level: Hard

Basecamp Location: Goris, Syunik region

Weather: Mid-autumn temperatures: mild during the day and cooler in the evenings; possible rain.
