Dashagil – Oraban

Dashagil – Oraban : 29km, +1402m/-1609m (E → W)
The path between Dashagil and Oraban is a challenging hike with steep ascents and descents, and rewarding views of the surrounding Sheki and Oghuz mountains. These rocky forest trails that lead to ridgeline animal paths have been worked on by TCT crews.
Trail conditions
From Dashagil, the route follows the right bank of the river, crossing through fields and streams before reaching a forested ascent with switchbacks and faint animal paths. The most visible trails are often the most reliable, and some trees and rocks are marked with paint blazes, particularly in the earlier half of the trail. As you near the ridge, the landscape opens up into seasonal pastures, with an optional detour leading to a mountaintop spring. The final descent into Oraban involves uncharted paths through forest, with very limited signage, so careful navigation is essential.
Predictable trail issues include:
• Overgrowth and faint paths
• Muddy and slippery sections near stream crossings
• Steep ascents and descents
• Trail may disappear intermittently; reliance on GPS tracks is advised
Water
There is a spring at the top of the mountain. If following the GPS tracks, the detour northwards leads to the water spring.
TCT Trail Maintenance
The initial forested section above Dashagil, known locally as “At Yolu” (Horse Route), was partially bench-cut and cleared by TCT crews. This part is relatively well-defined and more frequently used by locals and shepherds. However, the upper ridge and descent into Oraban have not been maintained, and markings are minimal, limited to a few blazes near the Oraban side.
Trail access
On the eastern side, Dashagil is accessible by road, with the trailhead located just past the military checkpoint at the village entrance.
On the western side, Oraban is also accessible via road.
Trail amenities
From Dashagil:
A small market run by Mehdi sits across from the military checkpoint. Early on, you will cross two streams, after which you reach a suitable campsite near the edge of the forest. Higher up, there is a shepherd shelter near the ridge. Rahman, a local shepherd, may be found there in the summer months.
From Oraban:
There are markets and a cafe across the village. Babek, a local mountain guide, lives in the village and is familiar with the trail and surrounding area.
